Teams

A team consists of up to 5 registered players but competition is 4-on-4 play. The 5th players is optional and may be registered by teams should all 4 players not be available for all games. Only 4 players may suit up for any one game however and those 4 players will play the entire game.

Substitutions to team rosters may be allowed at the discretion of the organizers before play commences but not thereafter (please do not try to "stack" your team at the last minute!!). Specificaly, substitute players should be roughly the same age as the player being withdrawn to maintain Division organization.

All players must be equipped with skates, regular hockey sticks and helmets. Specifically, no goalie sticks, goal tending equipment or pads are permitted.

Note that if a player is assessed a major penalty, that player will be suspended from playing the balance of the tournament, including playoffs, and the team will play 3-on-4 thereafter. Generally, a major penalty is assessed for any intentional action or behavior that could or does cause injury to any other player, during play or at any other time in the tournament.

Divisions

Teams will initially be organized into divisions, each division consisting of 6 teams. In the round robin series, each team will play the other teams in the same division so all teams are guaranteed 5 games. The winning team in each division will receive medals as the division champions.

Special Divisions

The organizers envision Special Divisions in the tournament that will have players from particular professions or industries. Currently, Police, Firefighter, EMS and media Divisions are planned where all players in those Special Divisions are bona fide members of these groups.

A minimum of 6 teams are required to make such a special division. Additional Special Divisions may be considered by popular demand, provided there are the minimum number of 6 teams to round out such a division. Examples might include divisions of teachers, plumbers, electricians, bankers, bakers and candlestick makers!

Special Divisions may also include divisions of mixed teams of men and women (2+2) or all female teams if there is sufficient interest. At this time, these teams may only compete at the round robin level unless there are multiple divisions of this kind to have a playoff series.

Note that these special divisions are only used in the round robin series to determine which teams advance to the playoffs - no team is "special" in the playoff series.

General Divisions

Most teams will be placed into General Divisions. In these divisions, organizers will attempt as best as possible to have teams of roughly the same age in each divisions (based on the average age of the team). Again for the playoffs, teams are solely selected based on their scores in the round robin series.

Round Robin Series

In the round robin series, teams play each other team in the same division for the guaranteed 5 games. For each team, a win counts for 2 points and a tie counts 1 point. Also counted will be the For & Against Goals Scored. For & Against points will be used to determine a playoff spot in the case of a tie between teams.

The winning team in each division, will be awarded Division Medals and automatically progress to the playoffs. Of the remaining teams, the teams with the highest scores will also progress to the playoffs, again For & Against points used to break ties.

Note that if there are Womens or Mixed Divisions, who may not progress to the playoff series (see Special Divisions above), additional teams based on scores as above will progress to the playoff series to fill out the playoff roster.

Players on the Division Champion teams will each receive division level medals.

Playoff Series

Playoff series for the Caddy Cup begin the Sunday starting with the teams selected as above. The winner of each of these games survives to play the next round. In the case of a tie after regulation time, there will be an additional 3 minute, overtime period. Should teams remain tied after the overtime period, play will continue until one of the teams scores (sudden death).

Note that the teams that make it to the Playoff Series will be automatically entitled to participate in the 2009 tournament. All other teams may apply to play in the 2009 Championship but their selection will be based on a lottery basis with all other applicants.

The top 4 teams will compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. In the semifinal matches, the 2 winning teams will compete for Gold and Silver medals while the losing 2 teams will compete for the Bronze medals. Note that these medals, while appropriately coloured, will not necessarily be made in whole or in part of genuine precious metals. Medals awarded become the property of the players that receive them.

The Caddy Cup

The Caddy Cup will be presented to the Gold Medal team who will have the Team and Player names engraved in the Cup base as an historical record of their achievement. Please note that the cup will be retained in the possession of the Kinsmen Club of Bolton and will reside in a location of their choosing.

Accommodations

The venue for the games is located within easy driving distance of Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto hotels of varying costs and quality. The organizers will arrange bus service and special rates with selected hotels as we draw closer to the event and better understand the actual needs for accommodations.

Schedule

The schedule will be such that teams play every 45 minutes (1/3 of all teams play at any one time) with games beginning on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM and continue throughout the day. Sunday will again start at 8:30 AM for the remaining round robin games. As you can appreciate, an event with this many participants can be somewhat chaotic, especially at the beginning. We therefore ask all players to be ready to play at 8:30 AM both days.

The playoff games start immediately after the round robin games finish and continue to the medals games which may commence as late as 4:00 PM.

Note there is a party at Crabby Joe's on the Saturday evening after play. Registered players wearing their team jerseys will be eligible for prizes and other special giveaways.

Communications

Prior to the actual event, ALL communications between teams and the organizers will be by email only. Other forms of communications such as telephone and fax cannot be supported. Remember that this event is run by volunteers so responses to emails may not be immediate but done as fast as possible under the circumstances.
