ABOUT THE KINSMEN CLUB OF BOLTON

2008 was a landmark year for Bolton Kinsmen with the active recruitment of women and the joining of our first 7 female members. Bolton Kin welcome all men and women 19 years of age and older to consider joining us. If you are interested, join us for a dinner meeting by contacting us at boltonkin@gmail.com or talk to any of our members - we're very approachable!

Bolton Kin meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, beginning September through to the end of June. We meet at The Kinsmen Centre located at 35 Chapel St. in Bolton, Ontario. Visit our project to refurbish a rundown OPP building into a modern meeting facility.

The club was chartered in 1964 into The Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs of Canada (now known as Kin Clubs Canada). The motto of the Kin Clubs is "Serving the community's greatest needs" and in our 45 years we have very much honoured that objective.

The Kindred Spirits Dragonboat Racing Team was founded in 1999 and continues close ties to the Club, including volunteer support of the pond hockey tournament. Kindred Spirits has evolved into a club of its own and also welcome new members!

Our major Kinsmen projects include the following; ·

- The annual Terry Fox Marathon of Hope in Bolton

- The annual Rick Hansen Man in Motion run in Bolton

- The annual Bolton Santa Claus Parade that draws over 40 parade entries and thousands of spectators

- Santa for Seniors where we bring Santa himself to present Christmas gifts to seiors without family

- The annual Tyke Hockey Tournament

- The Kinsmen Canadian Pond Hockey Championship has 24 teams competing for pond hockey supremacy

- Electoral debates at municipal, provincial and federal levels as they occur

- Support of various community youth sports teams including hockey, baseball and soccer teams

- Contributions to community needs like sports facilities (1st donation to the building of the Bolton-Albion ice rink, donation of the ice making machine, $30,000 in donations to the Caledon Wellness Centre), emergency equipment (ambulance for Emergency Services, portable defibrillator for Fire Dept.), support of seniors' centres (donation of a handicap bus, wheelchairs and monthly bingo game) and other needs as these have been requested and approved.

- Support for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. This is our national cause and our own club has raised and donated over $100,000 since our involvement (over $30,000,000 by Kin at the national level). ·

- Donations of use of The Kin Centre, a building renovated by the club as an excellent meeting facility we maintain for the community.

Bottom line, Bolton Kinsmen has a track record of running major community events and projects spanning over 45 years.
